Senior undergraduate student, Madi Shipley, wrote and produced this video about seismometers and hydrophones being installed on the cabled observatory to monitor earthquakes in real-time off our coast. Madi is a student in the College of the Environment, School of Oceanography at the UW and participated on Leg 2 of the VISIONS'14 Expedition. She is interested in the impacts of human-made sounds on marine life. This video provides a summary of how earthquakes are produced along the Cascadia Subduction Zone and how cabled instrumentation will provide real-time detection of seismic events along the subduction zone and at Axial Seamount.
