I am a recent graduate of the University of Washington’s School of Oceanography. I focused on the microbiology part of biological oceanography and carried out my senior thesis project under the guidance of Robert Morris and Richard Keil. My senior thesis examined the fate of biologically produced methane in an anoxic fjord. On the VISIONS ’13 cruise I will be helping with watch standing and student projects on board, as well as possibly carrying out my own study. I have been on two previous research cruises aboard the Thomas G. Thompson: for two weeks during the VISIONS ’11 cruise and for ten days during the senior thesis research cruise. What interests me most about this cruise is the constant possibility of discovering something new, as well as the incredible outreach potential the RSN project is creating. I am very excited for the cruise this summer and the learning opportunities it presents for me.
