John has been a teacher with the Cape Flattery School District for the13 years. He is currently the 5-6th grade teacher at Clallam Bay School. His hands on approach to education and personal love of the sea have led him to provide educational experiences that involve getting his students out of the classroom and into marine science activities in the real world. For the past six years, he has been involved with NOAA and Seattle Aquarium in their Ocean Literacy Program. As the STEM project coordinator for the school, his goal is to partner with the UW School of Oceanography to involve his students with ocean science exploration and provide opportunities for student driven experiments.
John kept a blog documenting his Leg 1 experience.
