Paros Seed Funding

In 2006, I was awarded the Jerome M. Paros Endowed Chair in Sensor Networks. This very generous gift from Jerry Paros, founder of Paroscientific, Inc, a company that designs and manufactures precision pressure instrumentation, has allowed me to provide seed funding for several projects here at the University of Washington. As Director and Principal Investigator of what is now known as the Regional Scale Nodes of the National Science Foundation's Ocean Observatories Initiative, I understand well the benefits of early support that can help grow an idea into a full-fledged program. As a faculty member in the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington, which is a component of the College of the Environment, I have the privilege of getting to know young scientists and engineers in the early stages of their careers, of discussing their dreams and ideas with them. As often as possible, I have provided encouragement in the form of seed money that helps take their ideas to the next stage.
